Private Security Firms Knowledge Base
Don't private security firms drain experience from the military? If an experienced soldier is paid $60K/yr, and the private security firms pay $400K/yr, doesn't common sense tell us that an experienced soldier is serving his enlistment and then going to work for the security firms? Doesn't common sense also tell us that privatizing traditional military roles is very expensive?
Are BlackWater And Other Private Security Firms Really The Monsters The Media Makes Them Out To Be? For some reason, the presence of private security in the current war, such as BlackWater and Haliburton, have long been criticized by the media, politicians, and some military. Some say they are basically hired thugs with no regards to law, some say they are causing more problems over there, some say they are not needed and we should leave the war to the military... What do you think about these private security?
How many people are in Iraq that work for "private security firms"? Other than corperate rules do they have anyone other than the private security corperation to answer to for conduct ? How or are their deaths reported ? When does this become public knowledge - What is their mission ? Do they follow any sort of rules of engadgement ? What are they paid as opposed to the regular armed forces that are over there now Does it scare you that private armies are for sale to the highest bid - Should it scare you ?
Is it wrong for the US to allow private security firms to act with impunity in Iraq? What message does this send to the Iraqis, when private security guards can commmit murder and not be subject to Iraqi law? Would America permit the same thing on our soil? http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/21197877/ http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,300045,00.html BTW the fox source was buried deep in its site...wonder why? Major Tom....... I am well aware of Blackwater, and the other private Armies Bush is using to avoid using a draft. Why don't you read about Blackwater your self..heres a starting place, feel free to google your own about their past crimes, and penalties they have already paid out. http://www.thenation.com/doc/20070402/scahill adammart...what the hell all you talking about??? Damn can't you read my question, and comments?
Why doesn't Congress draft the private security firms in Iraq, into the military? Even Defense Secretary Gates has concerns about the oversight of these security firms. Maliki wants Blackwater out of Iraq. The US government often drafted private companies into the military during WWII. The government could double the US military presence in Iraq overnight. Probably at half the cost. Why not draft every US citizen, who is currently in Iraq and carrying a weapon, into the military?
Private security firms based in the UK? I understand that there are several UK based companies that provide armed contracted security services overseas. How are these companies allowed to operate when the UK so foolishly does not routinely arm their police and to my knowledge does not allow armed private security.
Diod anyone else know that private security firms like Blackwater actually outnumber our troops in Iraq? There are over 180,000 soldiers from private organizations like Blackwater in Iraq. I watched an interview with a guy thet wrote a book on it, and he says that the reason why Blackwater was not pulled from Iraq after the shooting incident was because the situation would fall apart without the additional support. He also claimed that the problem with Blackwater is that because it is not associated with a country, it is not held to the same laws and rules of engagement as the regular military, which makes them accountable to nobody. whoops...sorry about the typos Sorry...don't have a link...saw it on tv.
After some "unlawful" killings by 2 private security firms in Iraq? Do readers here think that they should be all banned and sent home and leave security to the Iraqi police and the troops that are already there. My opinion that these guys are cowboys with very little if any training. At least the troops there are well trained in circumstances like this.
Why Don't Liberals Support Our Private Security Firms? We should all support lawless mercenaries right? They're part of the "mission" too right? God bless America!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! If by "just does their job without asking questions." you mean killing innocent people -- you may be right... When you add the term private into the mix - It equals HIT MEN These people have ABSOLUTELY NO allegience to the United States, and see killing as a means to a PAYCHECK ONLY. I'd bet anything that the star came from a conservative bonehead
What authority do retired or off-duty police officers have while working for private security firms? Can they write traffic and/or parking tickets? Specificaly, a ticket for not putting the yearly decal on your tag. I've been digging and found that the person that ticketed my car is a retired APD officer. What power does he have to ticket for registration or anything non-parking related? I keep the decal inside my car because it gets stolen too often when I park in Downtown Atlanta. GA law previous to this year didn't require that you put the decal on your tag. It was changed recently and, of course, I only just found out about it because of this ticket. There is now a 25$ fine wether you have the decal or not. I've been asked to show the decal and sent on my way many, many times. This time, I was parked on a public street and away from my car for not more than 30 seconds and the security officer threw the ticket onto my wind-sheild as I was pulling off. I was not asked to show the decal. It was obvious that he intended to write the ticket and be gone before I returned. Is it not illegal to ticket for profit and/or filling quotas? It's just sad that you have to pay these tickets to protect your self from tag thieves. But if you follow the law and your tag is stolen, then you pay the same ppl, to give you another tag. No matter what you do, the powers-that-be will make you pay. @ Curm... I intend to tell it to the judge, but seeing as how the APD is the the undisputed, most corrupt law enforcement agency in the country, I need to be able to quote code and ordinances and not let them walk all over me (again). Good answers, especialy Eric. Atleast you bring objectivity and first hand experience with your answer. :) @nytrainop You sir are an idiot and I smell bacon judging by your other answers. You can't even admit it Mr. Internet tough guy. Up untill this year I was lawfully keeping my decal inside the car so it wouldn't be stolen. The fact is. I have found other cased where this "officer" blatantly over stepped his Jurisdiction and his cases have been thrown out. Also, in Atlanta, there are 3 types of "off duty officer" Off Duty = full police powers Code Enforcement agent = parking enforcement only and limited arrest powers not moving violations (can include retirees) Reserve = I'm unclear as to thier specific powers in this state but can also include retirees also All of these are approved to work for private security. It's just a matter of how much power a retired officer actualy carries over into this role.
Shouldnt Policing be outsourced to private security firms? Cities all around america waster millions of dollars a year on ineffective policing. By the time we pay for their bullets alone we could have saved millions since cops are required to go to the range 4 times a week do you know how much that cost jeeeeesh once a week would be suffecient. Cops are essentially level 3 commisioned secuirty officers. So why not bring in those guys at a cheaper rate thed probably do a better job with less whinning like little broads Cities could save millions and have a functional police force since no police model from kansas city to minneapolis model has proven to be effective
is it just me or is the Dept of Homeland Security and some private firms getting a tad militaristic? if youre not near a border you wouldnt notice, but they (along with the INS) have all sorts of attack helicopters and very well armed men cruising along civilian roads and airspace here in the southwest. its a little unnerving.i understand they are trying to protect us, butr whose to say no one is making a bid for more personal power (im not talking bush or cheney, but its all sooo friggin ominous. somethings happening) along with all the private police forces being created by bloated defense contractors, and tighter control laws being enacted (so called "patriot" act and others) it would see dark clouds are on the horizon. whats your take?
Private security firm? I want to work for a company like Blackwater Worldwide (formally Blackwater USA) or a similar private security firm but in the UK or Europe. Are there similar organizations out there? Do blackwater recruit in the UK?
Airport security was federalized after 9/11:shouldn't USgov't federalize security at nuclear power plants? Why should we rely on private firms who like to cut corners for profit to protect the public interest? Private and municipal airports relied on private security firms and they let us down, why expect anything different from private security firms guarding nuclear power plants? These last two Q's are stmts in the form of rhetorical questions intended to contextualize the Q in the Q-box. They are two reasons why I ask my Q. Do we have to wait for another catastrophe by terror attack at one of our nuclear power plants for Chertoff's Homeland Security Department to take action? Nobody was "paranoid"(an inflammatory way of denigrating a legitimate concern?) about turning airliners into missiles to demolish the Twin Towers. To equate federalization with socialization is ignorant talkj bec Gov't is constitutionally responsible for handling threats to National Security. An attack on a nuclear power plant is one of those threats. Get real people.
Do You Like The Presence Of Private Armies Over In Iraq/Afghanistan? Many of these private security firms (BlackWater for one) have been causing a firestorm with their presence over seas. They earn 6 figure incomes which the real US Military was unhappy about. They also got on the offensive sides a lot and did many bad things and the Gov't granted them immunity from prosecution in exhange for details about what they were doing. They do not face military justice because they are not bound by the USMJ codes. Are these para-military groups a good idea?
Is this use of a private Security firm a sign of the falling standards of in US military training? October 2000: Al-Qaida bombers attack the USS Cole in Yemen, killing 17 sailors. Shortly afterward, Blackwater receives its first big federal contract, training sailors in counterterrorism. http://www.usatoday.com/news/washington/2007-10-19-blackwater-iraq_N.htm http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story... greggblack0590 Mine is a question! But if you need things explaining then I will. By using an external non military group to train the Military indicates that there is a lack of high standards in the area of training. And please do not assume to know to whom you are addressing! A little respect NCO gregory black! The Question is not about Terrorism or your personal experience. And as for the insults to wards me for asking this question it shows that there is something lacking! h h so why can't those who trained them do the training? You are missing the point of the question! What is wrong with some of you This a question simple about Military Standards concerning the choice of spending and structure! The links are provide in case people are unsure of the subject. You all have access to the internet and can easily do the research for other links! Really anyone would think that I had asked a question concerning the average IQ of some answers! Thank you very much for taking the time to give your answer Technical Sergeant Mac. So inclusion would it be fair to say that the choice in using a private organisation is due to slipping standard in funding concerning specialized training caused by poor governmental investment? Final note I only give thumbs to people who rant instead of giving an answer. The object of Q&A is for asking and answering question! If you have received a thumbs down and you have not ranted and have given an answer, rather than an emotional responce to my Question then it wasn't from me. Just point out also Thump per person so to the answer who wants to say that it is me doing it, please take the to count one is mine but the others!
Does Brown and Root use a Private Military Company/firm for security? Does Brown and Root use a Private Military Company/firm for security for its convoys or does it rely on the military? In 2004 I know the truck drivers refused to work after an ambush. At that that time they were being guarded by the military but has it changed since? If yes, do you know which company (ies)? Thanks Let me clarify, I don't want to gain employment. I am writing a paper and just need the info. Thanks!
When a shop security guard logs incidents known to be read by police how quick/accurate should it be logged? A door/security guard employed by a private security firm to a supermarket makes an entry in the shops incident log leading to a child (known to the security guard) being wrongly identified. Consequently, the Police wrote to the parents about the childs behaviour. The child was at home at the time of the alleged incident with the parents and a friend so the log was incorrect. When challenged, the security guard whose log implied he had seen the child and the incident suddenly changed the story and claimed the incident was raised by a third party and he had simply recorded the entry. However the accusation and letter from Police caused extreme distress to the child and family.
Security work in Thailand? I would like to work in Thailand and eventually live there, but the only options I have are maybe to do teaching. I have heard that it may be possible to work for a private security firm, can someone tell me if this is true and knows the names of any firms that may recruit. Thanks.
How will the public option put insurance companies out of business? The NHS and private insurance exist side by side in Britain. Same scenario in Australia and New Zealand. France has both private and public health care, so does Ireland. We have public schools and private schools. Private schools still thrive despite the public alternative. We have police protection and private security firms. I am confused. If government never gets anything right, and private is always better, then won't everyone stay with the private system and the public option will just go away?
How large of a role did mercenaries play in medieval armies? Today we have private security firms and independent military organizations (like the former Executive Solutions) who fill a wide variety of private contractor roles intended specifically to fill in "holes" in area that don't require military level training and cohesion, but do indeed need a strong arm. Back in the medieval era, and comparatively in the ancient eras, these mercenaries played an entirely different role, as entire guilds and bands that would sell themselves out. However, how much of a role did they play specifically? Did the mercenaries make up entire armies, like the mercenary unit that dwarfed the Knights of Malta off of Greece against a Turkish siege? Or were they supplemental, while most of the ranks were filled by professional or conscripted soldiers? Just how important were mercenaries to Medieval Armies?
Is Blackwater security, Bush's version of Hitler's Gestapo? Black water is a private security firm empowered by President Bush. They have power over the state police and are licensed to kill where ever they operate including here in America. They answer to no law enforcement or government authority They are operating in several American States. How safe are we? What connection will Bush have with Black water after his term in office ends? Will he take over the security firm? Does anybody else see this as a repeat of history? Does anybody see the president as an extremely dangerous threat to the stabilty of America's future? Should Blackwater and firms like it be outlawed? http://www.ibc34.com/BlackwaterinNewOrleans
Should a riot break out tomorrow would Black water get an instant contract ? Where is D Cheney these days anyway ? Would a grand scale riot suit the military industrial complex ? Would it suit a private security firm ? Should civil unrest occur ( according to army times the US military was deploying Oct 1 2008 to help police with crowd control etc ) who would gain from it other than the military contract sales and private security firms ?
Why is the situation in afghanistan getting worse? From the very beginning, the US started the Afghanistan adventure on a very narrow minded policy based on taking revenge for the 9-11 tragedy. The very fundamental question should have been asked In fact, the US policy revived the dying warlords, robbers, drug lords, murderers, rapists who were all put in check by the Taliban prior to US intervention. The situation is such that now, the more the conflict is broadened the more the warlords, robbers, drug lords, murderers, rapists will benefit. It is very simple. The more bombs = more $$ for the warlords. More insecurity = More $$ for the private security firms. More Bombs = More $$ for the Private Armies. More bombs = More salaries for the Afghan Government officials. More Bombs = More Salaries for the Contract Workers More Bombs = More Salary for the UN Workers. But unfortunately the only big losers in this dirty conflict are the US and NATO soldiers and the innocent Afghan population. Dear John, Thanks for taking time and replying. First I have to tell you that I have been in Afghanistan helping the reconstruction of this war turn country. To prove my point, it is getting more and more difficult to work (security wise). Second, I am not Taliban and in no way will sympathize with Taliban. All I am doing is to try to make sense of the situation in Afghanistan. I think, one of the major predicament for us is looking at things as “BLACK and WHITE”. If America and Americans like you and me want to lead the world, then we need to educate ourselves beyond this frame of mind “your are either with us or against us”. We need to spend some time studying and respecting other (stranger) cultures. If we keep going the way we are going, then we are heading towards failure not only in Afghanistan but all over the world.
What branch of the military has the shortest service length? I'm not really happy with where I am in my life, and I really want to join the military. I just don't want to be away for so long. What branch of the military has the shortest mandatory active duty service length? Also, when I get out of the military, where can I go with my life? I'm already certified in security, so I could probably join a private security firm right?
What kind of jobs are available to those with Law Enforcement experience? I plan on becoming a police officer, but only want to do it for a few years since I am not a big fan of working for the government. If I had say 4 years of Law enforcement experience, what other jobs would be available to me? Private Security Firm or a PMC would be nice but anything else? Thanks.
So Blackwater USA is now being refered to as Bush's private army? Well prove it They are a private security firm owned by former Navy SEAL Erik Prince They provide security all around the world to FEMA workers in New Orleans after Katrina, serve as bodyguards to politicians (in both parties) when traveling overseas So prove they are Bush's private army but do a little research before spewing ignorant hate And also they do have the right to defend themselves against agression just as anyone else does
Why did Bush broker a deal with Musharraf and Benazir Bhutto to return to Pakistan, and not protect her life? Their is questionable democracy in Pakistan, and former Pakistani Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto would have helped bring true democracy to Pakistan. Since the Bush Administration encouraged her to return to Pakistan, Condeleezza Rice and company should have had the CIA, our Military, or one of our private security firms such as Black Water to protect her life. Black Water boast of never losing a diplomat. There is questionable democracy in Pakistan, and former Pakistani Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto would have helped bring true democracy to Pakistan. Any ideas to handle an unfair parking fine? My paid for ticket had dropped to the floor of my van,and though I sent it in to the private security firm that scavenge that particular carpark, they still demand payment. I think its a 'done deal' but revenge is more what I'm after, but without gettin caught!Any inventive ideas would be most welcome.
Celtic have rightly been fined by UEFA for that numpty JPM, but what about the security forces? I have no qualms about the £43k fine being handed out, Celtic were warned. But twice now the security from the police and the private security firm have been found wanting, is anyone going to take them to task for failing miserably in their job? I mean the monies involved must run into serious tens of thousands, and they allow a tw@t to amble through the hoardings etc, on to the pitch. Who is going to hold them accountable? Thank you Steely, one aims to please. Eddie Violation champ etc, etc, etc. I used the word forces generically rather than refer to HM Forces in particular, but your point is made. Yes the mentality is taken into consideration, but surely as this wee cnut ambled on to the pitch rather than a full out charge, should have been prevented by Strathclyde's and Rock Steady's (if indeed they do have the contract) finest, rather than them collectively scratching their heads at how he managed to evade their well placed employees. I see that there is a certain empathy to the question, in that contracts must be honoured. In terms of the security firms, that is more easily operated, the one with the Police however, would be difficult, as if they don't pay the bill the stadium will be closed because of inadequate security. So with the Police a Hobson's choice. From my own point of view, I would like the club to challenge legally both security and the Police through the courts to get this ironed out once and for all. If there is a next time, I am frightened to think what UEFA and possibly FIFA might consider.
What social redeeming quality does haliburton have that should justify it's existence ? If there is an industry that should be national and run completely by government should it not be the production of arms ? What redeeming quality can a private corperation have that justify's it's place in the world Same question for "private security " firms such as Blackwater and others ? I am not refering to Mall security company's but mercenary corperations that rent out armies - Do they have a right to exist ?

Can a private company voluntarily publish information about itself using a website? I know it is against the law for a private company to ADVERTISE the sale of debt or equity securities to the public, but can a private firm choose to make its periodic reports accessible using a website? If it's a MAYBE, then under what conditions would it be permissible? It's for the purpose of informing current investors and assuring them that the information they are receiving is consistent with the information supplied to other investors and their advisors.
another reason to get out of the bush war"Feds target Blackwater in weapons probe"? Feds target Blackwater in weapons probe By MATTHEW LEE, Associated Press Writer WASHINGTON - Federal prosecutors are investigating whether employees of the private security firm Blackwater USA illegally smuggled into Iraq weapons that may have been sold on the black market and ended up in the hands of a U.S.-designated terrorist organization, officials said Friday NOW, DO YOU FEEL SAFER UNDER THE PRESENT ADMINISTRATION?
Hypothetically, if you were to walk into someones garden...? And sit on their bench, would it be legal for them to physically remove you? I ask this question because in the UK if a group of travellers move onto a field unauthorised, they can only be removed by court order. It would be illegal to get a private security firm to remove them. So, does the same work for tresspassers? The USA is a very different world compared to most countries.
What do you think about the loss of Habeus Corpus, the NSA secret domestic wiretapping, and survellience..... camera's going up everywhere? What about a National I.D. Card and the FEMA Holding Areas (Concentratrion Camps)? How about all the private "security" firms that are taking over areas formerly under the auspices of the military? Anything else you can think of to add to this list would be greatly appreciated. Jersey Girl: Try constitutional liberatarian on for size liitle one. It's not paranoia if it's true and it is. I have nothing to hide except I drink to much and know a whole bunch of people that smoke MARIJUANA. Sometimes I piss in the front yard of my rural home when nobody's driving by etc. All I see hear is the blind leading the blind. Or mabe a bunch of sheep.
