What jobs do you think have a good job security?
I want to have a job in the future that I can keep for the rest of my life. What are careers that have good placement no matter where you live and stuff? ~~~Picking majors in college

- Almost any medical field. Everyone gets sick eventually.
- Infection Control. Medical Waste Managment. Huge demand from Hospitals, Clinics etc. Recession proof!
- Any career in the health services (medicine, nursing, physical/rehabilitation science) will give you security. You'll never run out of patients (and jobs). If you're not into that, try freelancing (photography, writing/journalism etc.). Stick with something you really love to do and you're really interested in. In the end, as the saying goes, you will never have to work a single day for the rest of your life.
- The medical field seems to have the most job opportunities. However, when a hospital goes bankrupt due to the high costs of illegal aliens, or even closes its emergency room, people lose their jobs. There is no such thing as job security or lifetime employment anymore. But the medical field so far shows the most resilience. If you lose a job one place -- if it is not due to your skills or lack thereof -- you can readily find another. The question is whether too many people flood the medical field in hopes of better job prospects. A decade ago, finance was the "golden egg." In the 60's, teaching was supposed to be the big future in the demand equation. The "Baby Bust" put tens of thousands of teachers out of work in the 1970's. Pick what you would be happy with. If you don't have a knack for science and a love of it, the medical field probably is not your cup of tea. And all long-term predictions turn out wrong!
- If you are placed in any international companies with strong base, you have secured job apart from any government concerns.
- The question of what is the best job for security or the best job for the rest of your life is a common one but let me tell you my experience which is like many others. Many high school counselors make selecting a major for college sound like a lifetime decision and it is not. Most people change their majors several times while they are in college and most people will change careers several times in a lifetime. They may change it because they got tired of doing the same thing for 20 years or they may change it because the field they are in has changed. I'm on career #3 now. So you are sitting there right now thinking that you have to pick a major that will last you through 4 years of college and a lifetime - it is just not true. Also, the major or career that might be best for your friends may not be best for you. If you listen to them you have unique gifts and likes and dislikes that you may not take into account. So my suggestion would be to not worry about the next "Hot Job" or the one that will have security for a lifetime. Pick something that you like or are interested in. It is likely that this will change anyway. If you don't have a field in mind choose something like education. There is no higher calling than being a teacher. In general relax and pick something you like. None of us have a crystal ball on the future and what jobs may or may not be around in a few years...
- Government jobs are always secured and have excellent benefits. Government is looking for border patrol people i heard for the illegal immigrants.
