What is having a job in engineering like right now in these tough economic times, job security, new jobs?
Trying to find an idea of how hard it will be to find a job and keep it, in mechanical engineering, before i go into it. Any answers from engineers will be awesome! Tell me how your job is at the moment?

- I've been an engineer for 26 years in the electric utility industry. People are using less electric but this will turn around as the economy improves. Nuclear power will be making a resurgence and will need mechanical engineers to build and operate both the new and existing plants.
- It is the best of times, it is the worst of times. I am an Electrical Engineer, and I am making more money than ever, and it is on a 30 day contract they have just kept extending for a year. Which brings back the old story, money vs security. The fact are there are no really safe jobs, things can change on a dime. You have to focus on your job skills and your contact list. The good side is engineers have half the unemployment rate as other collage graduates. We also make twice as much as the typical non engineer graduates. It is a roller coaster, you might as well enjoy the ride.
