Why do Cricket cell phone stores have security guards working inside?

I visited a cricket store today in Austin, TX and saw a security guard standing inside not doing anything but just standing there. Seemed like a waste to me. What is his job? why do they have him there?

1. So that people dont think about stealing a cell phone or accessories
2. Really? I think I would stay away from a store that needed a uniformed security guard. Probably even the whole mall! Of course, I live in a place where people do not even lock doors, and leave their vehicles running (due to the cold) outside, while they are in the shops.
3. There are a lot of people who steal phones and flash them to cricket people also go to the store to pay bills. A lot of money is in the cell phone business so they just dint want people to steal phones or money used to pay bills.
